Dharchula — Gateway to Himalayas
The ancient town at the confluence of Kali and Dhauliganga rivers — where sacred journeys begin.
Perched at 915 metres where the Kali river separates India from Nepal, Dharchula is the last major town before the high Himalayan passes. For thousands of years, pilgrims heading to Adi Kailash, Om Parvat, and Kailash Mansarovar have rested, prepared, and gathered strength here before the sacred ascent.
Where Three Sacred Routes Converge
Dharchula is uniquely positioned as the starting point for three major pilgrimages: Adi Kailash and Om Parvat (7-day trek), the ancient Lipulekh Pass route to Kailash Mansarovar (13 days), and as a transit point for the Darma Valley and Panchachuli Base Camp. No other town in India sits at the confluence of so many sacred paths.
The Kali River — Sacred Boundary
The Kali river that runs beside Dharchula is sacred in the Hindu tradition — it originates at Kalapani near the Lipulekh Pass, the very starting point of the Kailash Mansarovar yatra's Indian section. The river's roar fills the town day and night — a constant reminder of the mountains that await above.
