Permits & Documents

Permit Questions

What is the Inner Line Permit? +
The ILP is a mandatory government permit for travelling beyond Dharchula into the restricted border area. Issued by the SDM office in Dharchula. We arrange this for all our guests — included in the package price.
Do foreign nationals need a different permit? +
Yes. Foreign nationals require a Restricted Area Permit (RAP) issued through the Ministry of Home Affairs. Processing takes 4–6 weeks and requires additional documentation. Contact us well in advance if you are a foreign national.
What documents do I need to bring? +
Original government ID (Aadhar / Passport / Voter ID), medical fitness certificate from an MBBS doctor, 4–6 passport photographs, and any prescription medicines. Share soft copies on WhatsApp when booking — we prepare all forms in advance.
Health & Safety

Health Questions

What is altitude sickness and will I get it? +
Altitude sickness (AMS — Acute Mountain Sickness) can affect anyone at altitudes above 3,000m regardless of age or fitness. Symptoms include headache, nausea, dizziness and fatigue. Our mandatory acclimatisation day at Gunji (3,200m) significantly reduces the risk. We carry emergency oxygen and our guides are trained to respond.
Should I take Diamox? +
Diamox (Acetazolamide) is a prescription medication that helps prevent altitude sickness. We recommend consulting your doctor before the yatra. Many pilgrims take it as a precaution — it is widely used on Himalayan expeditions.
Is there a hospital or medical facility on the route? +
Basic medical facilities are available in Dharchula. Beyond Dharchula, medical access is very limited. Our guides carry first aid kits, emergency oxygen, and have emergency contact protocols. This is why pre-trip medical clearance is important.
Can diabetic / BP patients do this yatra? +
Controlled diabetes and BP with normal levels are generally fine. Consult your specialist before booking. Bring sufficient medication supply (double the required quantity). Our guides are briefed on your condition.
What if I fall sick on the route? +
If a pilgrim develops serious altitude sickness symptoms, we descend immediately — no exceptions. We have emergency vehicle and contacts at every stage. The welfare of pilgrims always comes before the itinerary.
On the Route

Route & Experience Questions

Is the route dangerous? +
The Adi Kailash route is used by thousands of pilgrims every season. The main risks are altitude sickness (managed through acclimatisation) and occasionally road blockages from landslides during monsoon. We monitor conditions daily and have never had a serious safety incident with our groups.
What is the mobile network like on the route? +
Good signal in Dharchula. Intermittent signal at Gunji. No signal at Jolingkong and Nabidhang viewpoints. Inform your family before departure that you will be unreachable for 1–2 days at the high-altitude sites.
What is the food like on the route? +
Simple, nutritious vegetarian food — dal, rice, roti, sabzi, parathas and mountain tea. The food is freshly cooked at each guesthouse. We ensure it is hygienic. Carry protein bars and personal snacks if you have specific dietary requirements.
Can I take photographs at the sacred sites? +
Yes — photography is permitted at all sacred sites on the Adi Kailash route. Photography within temple sanctums may be restricted. Our guide will advise on-site. Drone flying is prohibited in the border zone.
Is there electricity and hot water at guesthouses? +
Most guesthouses have electricity (may be limited hours). Hot water is available in basic form — bucket hot water is standard. Do not expect five-star facilities — these are remote mountain guesthouses.
